About Sigrid

Hello, and thanks so much for checking out my website. I’m Sigrid, a language teacher certified in TEFL and English Pronunciation.

In 2015 I launched Sigrid’s Language Training (formerly Next Step English St. Albans), offering individual lessons in English as a Second Language and English Pronunciation (Accent Training) for adults in St. Albans, England. I’ve also been teaching French group conversation classes for adults in St. Albans with Language for Fun since 2012 (check out their website at www.languageforfun.org), as well as private language lessons to adults and children since 2006. What I love most is to share language learning tips and to inspire, encourage and equip people to go for their goals.

As a German native, I know first-hand how hard it can be to learn English and to get an English accent! Having grown up in Brussels, studied Translation in Geneva and then moved to the UK where I’ve been living for the last 25 years, I call myself a ‘crazy linguist’ (the official term is ‘polyglot’), as I’ve been fortunate enough to learn (or as I like to call it, ‘collect’) a number of different languages. The ones I speak fluently are English, French, Italian and German, and I can order a coffee and ask for directions in Dutch, Danish, Spanish and Polish!

Having married an Englishman (who is also a polyglot), I’ve had the privilege of raising two bilingual children. I was so fascinated to follow their journey of learning two mother tongues that I did an MA in Applied Linguistics to find out how they did it!

I love connecting with people and finding out about what life is like in different countries and cultures. That’s why I also run a free monthly event in St. Albans called the International Coffee Morning – check out the ‘International Coffee Morning’ section for more information.

I hope you enjoy my website and find what you’re looking for. Do get in touch if you’re interested in my classes or have any questions. I hope I can meet you soon!
